With the modern technology, people are now living comfortably in the amidst of man-made innovation. However, in the segment of thoughts, people are longing for Nature. The luxurious condominium in the heart of the city, one can always find plant pots, fish tank or miniature falls as part of their interior decorations, in order to have the touch of nature around, despite the fact that those are all imitations.
In fact, human and nature cannot be distinguished Sukhumvit Road one of the business districts in the city of Bangkok, where you can see high rise buildings, offices, on both sides of the road which are full of cares and noise pollution throughout the day. The roads are more like waterway, thus, the Sky Trains, enhance the residence around the area long for nature even more.
In the amidst of these hectic on Sukhumvit Road, with less than one Rai of land, lay a nice quite place shade under the greens which gives you the feel of oasis in the dessert. The Wattana Botanic Garden.
Shade under the greens is located on Sukhumvit 19, in front of the Kindergarten section of Wattana Wittayalai Academy. The limited areas not over 1 rai of land are decorated with all the big plants possible. Barks of the two big Jamjuree trees lay varieties of parasites namely, moss, Bird Net Fern, Plu dang (spited betel), Kratae Tai Mai, which indicate the richness of the soil shaded under the big trees. The whole gardens are divided into two zones. One is under the Jamjuree. Tree shade and the other one are the outdoor plants. Under the Jamjuree Trees. Are decorated with varieties of palms such as Palm Jeep. Palm Bangsoon Palm Lang tud or commonly called Krapor. The local plant that can be found in most of the virgin forest in Thailand. The Tanoi Ratten which grows in the virgin forest lay harmoniously with vaneties of local garden trees such as Kao Pansa Flower that bloom during the Buddhist Lent Period. The area where sunlight is shining through the leaves lay pots of Bira Net Fern. Orchids, Sling Bridge across the pond which is filled with water lilies and various water plants in the pots bring more lives and freshness unfortunately, during the visit the pond was under renovations. However, imagination drew the lively image when pond is filled with clear water, fish swimming under these shady trees.
Away from the shady tree, lay the green grass, the Plubplung (Cirnum) lined through until the entrance of the Kinder Garden. Plubplung is the outdoor plant, when water and enough sun it will blossom. Their huge purple and white petels mixed with the ordinary pure which show their differentiate from other flowers. One of the most outstanding ones is the Sai Yud (Desma-Chinensis) arbour which covers the whole stone path. Though the arbons not so big but it is blossom will. At a glance. Sai YUd looks more like Cananga flower its floral. Leaves and trunk are more swaying and highter. The good scent of Sai Yud in the early morning will be thinner and disappear when the sun I strong. Sai Yud is populary cultivaied for its scent along home on the canal or home in the garden at Bangkok Noi and Bangkok Yai. It represents the charm of garden in the city.

I had the opportunity to talk to one of the teachers as well as read the history of the botanic garden written on the wall. The garden has been implemented under one of Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit’s Projects during 1998 “Pluksa Nakorn” (city of plants). To promote growing of plants and decorate the surroundings with different kinds of plants. In response to the Royal Project. The Parents and Teacher Association agreed to transform the existing plants and the canal in the school to garden in the city: not only for the beautiful environment but for educational purposes as well. The agreement was brought up to the school management who agreed that the space beside the management quarter including the old missionary quarter be utilized for this purpose.
On the day of my visit. I have seen parents who were waiting to fetch their children walked around. Sit and relaxed by the arbor in the garden. I saw happy faces from children and their parents walking on the pavement in the garden. Only if the compound is bigger. I would have seen children run around catching butterflies or enjoy the colorful blossom.
Though, this botanic garden is not that big, but if you look through the leaves. You will see that the garden is surrounded with the high rise buildings. The distance of one kilometer of Sukhumvit Road and the garden is hard to imagine that it is just like oasis in the middle of the dessert. I presume that most of the people will agree with me.
In fact, oasis in the middle of the dessert do exists; only if you experienced it, you will realize that nature is known to be miracle life saving.

The Wattana Botanic Garden situated at Wattana Wittayalai Academy, Sukhumvit 19. Get off at Asoke Station when traveling by BTS, then take a public motorcycle which will cost 10 bath.
This Botanic Garden is not a public garden; it is under the care of Wattana Wittayalai Academy. Therefore, notification should be made. However, you can walk around when you fetch your children. Opening house according to the Government office house. No admission fee.
